Martin Paintover

So here's a paintover (technically speaking I used more photo textures than actual painting) of what I've got for my scene so far. I'd love your feedback as to what else I could fit into the scene and also the placement of the current objects.

  1. Hi Martin,

Thanks for posting! The two things I am looking at here is the why (the story and history of the scene)and the size relationship between objects. The table is very large compared to the door of the jail and the torture table and cage. I would go larger on the background items because you want to make sure when character runs up to the door it is to a comparable size. Right now the size of someone's hand to pick up that bottle is not the size of the hand of someone that holds the key to open that door.

The second thing I want to talk about is the why. It almost looks like you have an opening at the top of this dungeon because of the color of the lighting that is covering the floor and walls. That may or may not be intended, but your scene is lacking lighting. We can talk about this class in more depth tomorrow, but we definitely need to give this place more lighting and atmosphere. For instance if the fire was smoking that heavily in an enclosed space, the whole room would be filled with smoke. (this is a reason I actually like the idea of an open ceiling.) If it didn't have an opening at the top and this place is underground then, the whole room would be really dark except for the orange light bouncing off the walls.

    Does this make sense?

  2. The why is part of a large story some of my friends and I have been developing, basically this is the dungeon within the Capitol of the main character's kingdom. The main character has been betrayed by his king (who in recent times has become increasingly evil) and as such has been framed for the murder of the royal family (save the king). The game would start with the main character in the dungeon and he would then be broken out by rebels who have turned against the King.

I didn't have a roof on it because I wasn't sure if we were supposed to create enclosed spaces or quarter open views. So I'll put a ceiling on the dungeon and I might go for a hole in the ceiling like an oubliette. As for the size of the objects they are actually similarly sized but the room is rather larger and I rendering it from a specific camera angle.
