Textures only - John Price

  1. The largest problem I see right now is that your textures are too similar. Especially in color. When need some sort of color shifts. Again, if that is supposed to be a tarmac then it should be black or gray. This would be the easiest to fix. Your cracked ground would still read as tar in a hot area with the color shift. The sand looks alright, but there are areas that are sharp and some that are blurry which is mostly like caused from stamping or the heal brush. Make sure it is consistently sharp. The color tiling works out pretty good right now, but I can see the shifts from sharp to blurry. I am not sure what the last texture is supposed to be and that is the first thing you need to get across to your viewer. Is it a rock? Is it a hard sand? You can use it as a base, but there needs to be a lot more work done so that it reads like the material that it is supposed to be. I would also add a bit more variation. All 3 look like only one photo was used. Don't forget to use multiple image sources and brushes (especially your brushes made from photos!) to layer and to build your shapes.
